FAQ Your price is so reasonable. Are there any hidden charges? Many laser centers have only one doctor charging an expensive fee or may charge extra for higher prescriptions or astigmatism, but at LaserOne we take pride in offering quality LASIK for one low all-inclusive price, with no restrictions and no hidden fees. LaserOne's goal was to create an organized group practice of experienced surgeons in a state-of-the-art laser center sensitive to our patient's needs, both medical and financial. Now, as the industry leader, we've made laser vision correction affordable for the vast majority of people.
What doctor will perform my procedure? At LaserOne, we have several highly skilled, world-renowned surgeons. They have performed thousands of refractive procedures. The surgeon who performs your procedure will depend upon the date you would like to schedule your procedure.
What percentage of the doctors' practices are dedicated to LASIK? LaserOne surgeons dedicate at least 50% of their private practices to LASIK patients. In addition to refractive surgery, they also perform cataract surgery, corneal transplants, and treat general eye diseases.
How long have the doctors been performing LASIK surgery? LaserOne surgeons began performing the LASIK procedure soon after it was introduced in the United States in the early 1990's.
How many LASIK procedures have been performed at LaserOne? Since opening, LaserOne doctors have performed LASIK on tens of thousands of eyes. Hundreds of LASIK procedures are performed every month.
What percentage of patients are 20/40 or better following surgery? Greater than 95% of LaserOne patients achieve 20/40 or better. The high percentage is due to our thorough examinations, precise calculations and capable surgeons.
Will the doctor measure the size of the pupils when naturally dilated in a dimly lighted room? Yes. You will go through a very thorough LASIK evaluation and the attending LaserOne optometrist will measure the size of your pupils. The ideal candidate for LASIK is over 18 years old, has healthy corneas, and has not had a significant increase in prescription strength in the last 12 months. People with certain medical conditions, or women who are pregnant or nursing, may not be good candidates for LASIK. It is important that you have realistic expectations and that your decision is based on facts, not hopes or misconceptions. The goal of LASIK is to reduce your dependence on corrective lenses. LASIK does not always create 20/20 or even 20/40 vision. It cannot correct a condition known as presbyopia, or aging of the eye. In fact, people over 40 who have their distance vision improved with LASIK may find they will need reading glasses after the procedure.
What are the benefits of LASIK over other procedures? There are many benefits to LASIK. Patients enjoy high success rates - 95% are 20/40 or better. Unlike earlier procedures, most patients are back to work within a day and both eyes may be treated at the same time. LASIK is a virtually painless procedure - only topical anesthetics are necessary.
Is there a chance I can dislodge or move the flap? The flap seals itself within 4 minutes of being replaced; however, we recommend that you do not rub or touch your eyes for 24 hours following the procedure.
What happens if I move my eye during the procedure or if I blink? Blinking is not a problem because the anesthetic eye drops tell the brain to turn off the blink reflex. Additionally a "speculum," a small device that helps to hold the lids apart, insures that you will not blink. Most patients notice an improvement in their vision immediately following the procedure. Others may notice a difference after several hours, and some will notice improvement the next day.
Is this a permanent procedure? Yes. Laser vision correction is considered to be permanent. It is unlikely that you would need to have any additional treatments after the initial procedure. However, should you need a re-treatment, LaserOne will provide this at no cost within 1 (one) year of your initial procedure. Additional treatments thereafter will incur a nominal charge for laser use. cost.
Has anyone ever gone blind from having the surgery? No. LaserOne knows of no documented cases of anyone going blind from having the LASIK procedure.
What are the risks associated with LASIK? Risks that are thoroughly discussed with patients are: Haze, Halos, Starbursts, Over-correction, Under-correction and Dry Eyes.
Are there long-term risks associated with LASIK? The LASIK procedure has been available since 1988 in many areas of the world and since 1991 in the United States. At this time, there are not any known or reported long-term risks associated with LASIK
Will LASIK interfere with future eye surgeries? No. LASIK will not cause complications with future eye surgeries such as cataract surgery.
Will my night vision be affected? Following surgery, some patients may experience halos or starbursts from car headlights that can subside as the healing process progresses. In other cases, the excimer laser may reduce or eliminate night glare.
When can I return to my normal activities? Normal activities may resume the day after your surgery. For proper healing to occur, we recommend that you avoid getting water or any other substances directly in your eye(s) for 2 weeks. Extreme activities, such as water sports, scuba-diving, skydiving, and other very physical activities, are not recommended without your surgeon's approval. You should not drive immediately after your procedure. However, the following day you may drive if you are comfortable with your vision.
Does insurance cover this procedure? Most insurance companies view laser vision correction as an elective or cosmetic procedure. Therefore, they rarely cover the procedure. If you have a medical benefits plan through your employer, you may claim laser vision correction as a medical expense. In addition to affordable fees, LaserOne offers convenient financing with monthly payments as low as $54.
Are more advanced procedures on the way? There are always new procedures on the horizon. At this time, LASIK has the highest rate of success. And rest assured that LaserOne consistently uses the most proven surgical techniques and the most advanced technology.
