Richard S. Koplin, M.D.


Dr. Koplin is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been in practice for more than 30 years — specializing in laser vision correction. Dr. Koplin is licensed in the state of New York and received his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.

Dr. Koplin completed his internship at Metropolitan Hospital and his residency at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He continues his education in ophthalmology and refractive surgery through advanced courses given by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Koplin has been performing refractive surgery since its inception and is active in research in laser vision correction. He is the co-inventor of the Corneal Modeling System, technology that is used by all LASIK surgeons today. Dr. Koplin has been recognized for his extensive research in ophthalmology and has published numerous articles for medical journals. He is one of the most experienced refractive surgeons in the New York area and was one of the first surgeons in New York to perform the LASIK procedure.

Dr. Koplin has been appointed to several prestigious positions. At the New York Medical College, he was named Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology. At the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, Dr. Koplin serves as Senior Attending Surgeon, Director of Eye Trauma, and Director of Bio-Engineering Computer Science.

Dr. Koplin is a member of several professional associations: the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the International Keratorefractive Society, the New Academy of Medicine, the New York State and County Ophthalmology Society, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

When Dr. Koplin is not with his LASIK patients at LaserOne, he enjoys being outdoors and playing the harmonica.
